Ollie Barre, the founder and head instructor of the K.E.E.P. After School Program and Kids Empowerment Enrichment Program Non-Profit, brings over 20 years of experience in coaching kids, physical fitness, yoga, bio-dynamic movements and games, health and wellness, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and self-defense training. His journey in martial arts and health and wellness began at the age of 12 when he started training with the legendary Gracie family under Rickson Gracie himself, igniting his lifelong passion for the art, health and wellness and the mind-body connection.
Ollie ensures that children in the K.E.E.P. After School Program receive comprehensive training that encompasses both the traditional values of martial arts and contemporary fitness practices. His approach emphasizes holistic development, which includes physical fitness, mental resilience, and a harmonious mind-body connection. This philosophy is deeply rooted in his upbringing and experiences growing up in West Los Angeles, between the beautiful Pacific Ocean and Santa Monica Mountain range, where he developed a profound appreciation for the outdoors and its impact on mental well-being.
In addition to his martial arts expertise, Ollie has a background in early childhood education, yoga, meditation, and breathing exercises. He believes in the power of mindfulness and self-awareness, teaching students not only physical techniques but also strategies for emotional regulation and mental clarity. Through practices such as yoga and meditation, Ollie helps children cultivate a sense of inner calm, focus, and emotional balance.
Ollie's journey towards empowerment goes beyond physical training. He understands the transformative power of martial arts in building confidence, self-discipline, and a positive mindset. His approach is holistic, integrating lessons from nature, mindfulness practices, and martial arts training to empower children to become resilient, confident, and compassionate individuals.
Ollie also comes from a long line of camp and youth leaders. His great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Lessing, opened one of the first summer camps for kids and adults in upstate New York in the early 1900s. This camp, named Hak-O-Wah, was a Physical Culture Camp for boys, girls, and adults, focusing on reconnecting people with nature and their bodies. The camp attracted the best and brightest minds of the time to teach, with Mr. Atlas himself designing the physical fitness program and teaching at the camp. Ollie's goal with K.E.E.P. is to revitalize the ideals of Camp Hak-O-Wah and bring back the greatness of the old-time traditional camps.
Ollie's father was also a lifelong teacher and one of his greatest inspirations. A college professor in his early years at U.C.L.A., his father was commended for his lectures and teaching abilities. Sadly, he passed away in 2021 after a long battle with brain cancer. Ollie hopes to celebrate his father's love for teaching by infusing the inspiration and knowledge he gained from him into his programs.
Outside of teaching, Ollie built one of the most prestigious property management companies in West Los Angeles and has started numerous businesses, helping others launch their own ventures as well. He is a lifelong entrepreneur and a renaissance man. When not teaching, Ollie enjoys spending time with his wife and two kids, engaging in outdoor adventures, and exploring diverse cultures and experiences.
Born in the vibrant city of São Paulo, Brazil, Margot Barre's journey to becoming a celebrated youth leader and educator began at a young age. When she moved to the United States, her family's dynamics shifted, with her single mother working tirelessly to support Margot and her two brothers. This challenging environment meant Margot's family had to rely heavily on after-school programs and community involvement to bridge the gap in care and nurture.
Fortuitously, Margot became part of the largest non-profit after-school program in Los Angeles, an experience that would shape her future profoundly. The positive and transformative impact of these programs ignited a passion in Margot to give back. She began her journey as a Counselor-In-Training (CIT), demonstrating an early commitment to youth development and community service. Her dedication saw her rise through the ranks to staff member and ultimately to the prestigious role of director at the second-ranked elementary school in the Los Angeles Unified School District.
Margot's pursuit of excellence didn't stop there. She continued her education in early childhood development, equipping herself with the knowledge and skills to lead with both heart and expertise. Over the years, she has earned a reputation as a naturally gifted educator and youth leader. Margot's philosophy is simple yet profound: to put in 100% effort to ensure her students not only have a great time but also learn invaluable skills and life lessons.
Her approach to education is holistic, focusing on the physical, emotional, and intellectual development of each child. Margot brings to our program an immense amount of experience and unparalleled care, qualities that set her apart in the field. Her commitment to nurturing young minds and fostering a positive learning environment makes her an irreplaceable asset to our team.
Margot Barre is not just an educator; she is a beacon of inspiration and a testament to the transformative power of dedication and community support. Her journey from São Paulo to becoming a leading figure in youth development serves as a powerful reminder of the impact one person can make in the lives of many.
